The scope involved the removal of 2 full Ammonium Nitrate
Reaction Facilities, up to and including the absorption system.
The storage facility was to remain intact for further use along
with interconnecting services and the removal of
electrical/mechanical/instruments from amongst the
remaining live equipment.
The project timescale was 12 weeks. Material produced in
this time for disposal to a licensed facility included 480
tonnes of Stainless Steel, 220 tonnes of Mild Steel, 120
tonnes of general waste, 36 tonnes of asbestos sheets and 11
tonnes of flock asbestos. The resale equipment generated was
1 Absorber, 1 Condenser and 2 Ammonia Compressors.
Working on mainland Europe presents its own specific
individual issues but a well established system of work, from
Method/Risk Assessments (with a process for any
amendments) to a strategic auditing regime allowed
continuation of work throughout, with day-to-day issues
being addressed at both site and managerial level.
